math reads left to right, like english
say there's a number called r.
i want to write the number that's one third of r: this is r divided by 3. the way i write that in math is like this:
r/3
r is first, then the /3, because i TAKE r (like i start with r), and divide IT by 3.
now what if i want to write a new number. this number i want to be the number that is 12, subtract the number i got before. then its like:
12 r/3
12 is first, because i TAKE 12, and minus off another number from it.
well that's ur problem.
so "one third of r" is r/3, and the answer, which is that subtracted from 12, is:
12 r/3
